Sex plays a significant role in the development of PSA. It has been found that although men and women experience PSA in the same ways, women experience PSA more frequently and intensely. Unfortunately, due to factors concerning differences in biological make up, women are more prone to anxiety disorders such as Social Anxiety Disorder and General Anxiety Disorder. This means they are also more succeptable to Public Speaking Apprehension. The cause of this is that the nervous systems of women are more sensitive and reactive to their environments and situations. This has been confirmed by research that showed women have more chemicals in their brains that cause panic and anticipatory anxiety.
