Welcome!

Speakaboo is an informational website dedicated to Public Speaking Apprehension (PSA). It's content is based off of academic research at the undergraduate level. It was created because of a recognition that there are hundreds of thousands of people who suffer from PSA (1 in 5 or 20%) and are looking for answers. Let's face it, in today's business and academic worlds, presentations and public addresses are an inevitability for almost any position or major. However, with many people, their PSA can dramatically effect their presentations in a negative way no matter how well they prepare or know the material. This deficit can be costly, especially if the stakes are high. You could receive a poor grade, not get the job you wanted, be passed up for a promotion; the list goes on forever. It's true, PSA can be crippling, having many cognitive, psychological, and behavioral effects. To give a better idea of how this might affect an individual, the following youtube clip has been provided (to the right). This is a vlog from a Psychology major who speaks up about dealing with Social Anxiety that carries over to the classroom.
The boxes below in green and purple are quotes from original studies on PSA. The first quote in the green box is a list of characteristics attributed to high PSAs. The second quote  is more information about the characteristics of individuals with high PSA. The quote in Purple is from an article that referenced a survey that revealed public speaking as the number fear of Americans.
